Talent & Training China - Netherlands
In 2009 the Dutch Innovation Platform launched the so-called '1000 PhD initiative' aiming at increasing the number of highly educated (PhD) personnel in the Netherlands. Because of its large scientific potential China has been selected for a first pilot programme, Talent & Training China-Netherlands. An agreement (MoU) was signed between NWO, KNAW and the CSC. The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) allocated means for the set-up and selection procedure of the programme, while the CSC funds scholarships for a certain number of PhD candidates via the overseas PhD scholarship programme.
T&T China-Netherlands aims at the recruitment of talented Chinese PhD candidates interested in coming to the Netherlands to carry out their PhD research. High-quality candidates from a pool of excellent Chinese universities will be selected for PhD positions at pre-selected Dutch Graduate Schools. A unique match-making trip of selected candidates to the Netherlands is included in the procedure. This trip makes it possible for the candidates and the Dutch Graduate Schools to get to know each other.
The first T&T China Netherlands subsidy round in 2010-2011 resulted in the final selection of 12 Chinese researchers starting their PhD research in the Netherlands in September 2011. The next Call for Applications will be launched on 15 August 2011. In this Call 27 Dutch Graduate Schools will provide for two positions each, for which students of the Project 211 universities and the Graduate Universities of CAS and CASS can apply. Applicants need to be available for the match-making trip to the Netherlands from 16 - 20 January 2012.
Selected candidates will have to apply for a scholarship at the China Scholarship Council for their living expenses during their stay. The Dutch Graduate Schools are responsible for other costs involved during their PhD programme, like research costs and supervision. If necessary please check the local rules and provisions of the Graduate School of your choice.
For those up to 54 selected PhD candidates the PhD programmes will start in September 2012.
