TOP grants offer researchers with a superb track record the opportunity to renew their group's lines of research as far as content and collaboration are concerned. The intention is to create scope for groundbreaking, top-quality science. Applicants are free to pursue a research subject of their choice.
The grant can be used to fund scientific staff and material credit for a period of several years. With this approach a new line of research can be given a significant boost in the form of several related subbprojects.
What can be applied for
Researchers can apply for a TOP Grant from the NWO Divisions for the Chemical Sciences (CW), Earth and Life Sciences (ALW) and Social Sciences (MaGW) and from the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw). Moreover, in collaboration with the NWO Division for Physical Sciences these organisations (excluding MaGW) have published a joint call in 2009 for the submission of cross-disciplinary TOP Grant applications. This call was open to researchers from the earth sciences, astronomy, biochemistry, chemistry, biology, health sciences, ICT, agricultural and food sciences, medical sciences and mathematics.
The different grant schemes are very similar to each other. However, there are some small differences.
