Teachers talk differently with migrant parents about the performance of their child
Dutch parents encourage their children to perform well at school in a different manner than parents with a migrant background. The vision of teachers often fits in better with that of Dutch parents. This gives rise to communication problems between the school and migrant parents, conclude NWO-funded researchers Mariëtte de Haan, Inge Wissink and Ed Elbers.

Jealousy of eldest child can be predicted before birth of younger sibling
Parents who play with a doll and then ignore their child, elicit the same jealous behaviour in the child as a newborn brother or sister can do later. The lack of attention from the mother elicits more jealousy from the child than the same lack of attention from the father. Psychologist Nóra Szabó discovered this during research funded by NWO. The Lorentz Center is opening a second facility – Call for proposals
The Lorentz Center expands its activities with a new, smaller facility dedicated to workshops for up to 25 participants: the Lorentz Center@Snellius. Activities in the new facility will begin in July 2012. Proposals for all Lorentz Center workshops may be submitted with the first coming submission deadline: 15 May 2012. Read more
