Integration of Biosynthesis and Organic Synthesis (IBOS) - SME Projects
| Line of action | : | Science for society |
| Part of NWO Theme | : | Sustainable Earth |
| Secretariat | : | ACTS |
| Participants | : | CW |
| Apply | : | No, the subsidy is closed for applications |
The principles of molecular biology guide our developments in synthesizing complex molecules, in particular when combined with the demands for higher development speed and efficient, sustainable processes. This program aims for new dimensions for organic synthesis, biosynthesis and bioprocess engineering.
The long-term goals of the IBOS programme are:
- Development of multifunctional catalytic methods in (bio)organic synthesis (making a number of bonds simultaneously);
- The end of protective group chemistry, elaborate purifications and waste; - Onepot cascade syntheses;
- Cell factories for the production of natural and non-natural products (e.g. for health, food);
- Shorter time-to-market by modular process steps (e.g. processes on chips/ microreactors).
Who can apply
The programme is open to all tenure (track) researchers of Dutch universities and other Dutch predominantly academic institutes.
What can be applied for
Personnel
Budget for postdoctoral researchers may be requested:
- Postdoc/researcher (1 year): ~k€ 63 per year (NWO-VSNU tariffs as of July 2008)
- Postdoc/researcher (2 years): ~k€ 127 per year
- Man hours of SME labour costs
Tariffs include a personalised bench fee.
Consumables
A bench fee can be budgeted to a maximum of k€ 12 (including VAT/BTW) per researcher per year.
Equipment
Special and dedicated equipment that directly relates to the proposed research may be applied for.
SME in kind costs
These may comprise:
- man hours (see above)
- (use of) equipment
- materials, enzymes, cultures, etc.
When can be applied
The deadline for submitting applications was 12 March 2009.
Criteria
Budget
13.6 million euro. Duration 2003-2012 with two overlapping periods of 4 years. Budget for the fourth call for SME projects is 650,000 euro.
Financiers
Dutch chemical and life sciences industry (including SMEs), Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs, NWO General Board and NWO Division for Chemical Sciences.
