The aim of the programme Investment Subsidy NWO Medium is to stimulate investments in innovative scientific equipment or data collections of national or international importance.
Who can apply
The following knowledge institutions may submit proposals:
- a. Dutch universities;
- b. NWO institutes (incl. the Dutch-Belgian Beamline at ESRF in Grenoble);
- c. academic libraries;
- d. Netherlands Cancer Institute;
- e. Max Planck Institute for psycholinguistics in Nijmegen.
Due to the agreements between NWO and KNAW, the KNAW institutes may not submit proposals for Investment Subsidy NWO Medium.
What can be applied for
Investment subsidy NWO Medium is meant for the purchase of equipment andfor the setting up, linking and enriching of data collections.
For proposals an upper limit of € 1,000,000 applies for the arts, socialsciences and humanities and € 1,500,000 for the natural and life sciences. The lower limit is usually € 250,000, yet for certain researchareas this amount may be deviated from. Please refer to the pages of the Divisions on the NWO website.
When can be applied
- For most NWO divisions and for the multidisciplinary proposals, the closing date for submitting transdisciplinary proposals was 31 August 2011, 17:00 hrs
Some divisions make use of preproposals for which a different closing date applies. This is usually in May. The Division for the Social Sciences is currently working with a preproposals procedure. The closing date for the submission of preproposals to the Division for Social Sciences was 10 May 2011 at 17.00 hours.

Criteria
Scientific quality, social and national interest, financial and technical criteria.
Procedure
The advisory committee consults with the governing boards of the research councils. The research councils have their own conditions and selection procedure. Candidates can explain their application in a separate procedure. Because the Minstry of Education, Culture and Science has to approve the decision, their priorities count as well.
Budget
For all NWO Divisions together, an amount of 18 million euro is available per subsidy round.
