The research programme From Molecule to Cell (MtC) is a joint programme of the NWO Divisions for Earth and Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Physical Sciences. It is part of the theme 'The Foundations of Life Processes', one of the nine themes from NWO’s strategic paper 'Themes with Talent' (2002-2005). The programme From Molecule to Cell aims to develop an understanding of the complex mechanisms of biological processes at the integration level from molecule to cell. The programme committee wants to achieve this by encouraging interconnections and cooperation between the biological, physical, chemical and mathematical disciplines and information science. High-quality research will be promoted in the following domains, focusing on the behaviour of biomolecules in their cellular context, and with regard to the underlying methods and techniques:
- Dynamic protein structures in their cellular context
- Membrane assemblage
- Formation, structure, regulation and function of multibiomolecular systems
- Foundational methods and techniques
The research must lead to the development of a quantitative description/model of biosystems and/or the development of related measurement technologies and methods of analysis.
The quality of the submitted proposals was such that the total budget of 8.1 million euro for research projects is spent after the first round. The remaining 0.5 million euro are spent on non-project-related stimulation measures and office expenses. For more information please get in touch with the contacts of this subsidy form.
