Extra Information
In many areas of society, technology in particular, a mathematisation is taking place that calls for a solid mathematical underpinning. In important application areas recent developments in mathematics are often underused. By making better use of relevant mathematical knowledge, possibly in combination with other scientific disciplines, it will be possible to fortify the position of Dutch businesses, to improve the performance of (government) bodies and to raise the level of knowledge in society.
Criteria
A crucial condition is that the proposal must indicate the mathematical application in concrete detail. This means that there must be a real chance that the knowledge that is to be developed is actually going to be used by a company or social institution. Procedure
Applications can be submitted to the Technology Foundation STW. The programme committee decides whether the proposals fit the criteria. The applications will first be reviewed via STW by a number of external experts according to the criteria of scientific quality and usability. Next the programme committee will decide whether the proposals will be recommended for approval at either STW or the Division for Physical Sciences.
