The Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI) is, from 1946 onwards, the national research institute for mathematics and computer science. It carries out groundbreaking research and communicates new knowledge to society, trade, and in particular, the industry. As an international centre for knowledge and idea exchange, it has attracted postdocs and PhDs from more than 25 countries. The strategy until 2012 is inspired on four themes: earth and life sciences, the data explosion, social logistics and software as a service.

Year of foundation

CWI was founded as Stichting Mathematisch Centrum in 1946.
