European consortium to measure impact of research on society
How to measure the impact of research on society, and how does society impact science? SIAMPI has received a €800,000 grant from the European Commission to develop assessment methods to answer these questions.

Pilot study VU Amsterdam Law has started
The VU University Amsterdam needs a method to more accurately assess research at the Faculty of Law. This discipline, united in the Jurisprudence Disciplinary Consultative Body has already carried out a lot of work into ways of assessing the research more accurately. Following on from this, ERiC has now started a pilot to develop criteria and indicators which do justice to the broad objectives of the research.

Pilot study University TU Delft - Architecture
Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) needs methods to more accurately assess research from design-oriented disciplines. A pilot study was therefore started at the Faculty of Architecture. Research at this faculty is not only published in scientific journals. All too often these activities are scarcely appreciated by assessors despite being common practice within the discipline.

Quality Assurance Committee (KNAW) calls for a broad assessment of research
KNAW's Quality Assurance Committee advises a fairer approach to assessing research. They emphasise that the non-academic activities of researchers should be properly considered in research assessments. Their vision is set out in the advisory report 'Quality assurance in science'

Assessment of knowledge centres and electorates at universities of applied sciences
Over the last few years, Hogeschool Utrecht has gained experience in using Sci_Quest to evaluate lectorates. On 10 April 2008, Hogeschool Utrecht held a research congress about research at universities of applied sciences in an international perspective.

National seminar 12 June 2007

Letter from the Minister for Education to the universities
Measuring and revealing the social impact of scientific research is an important theme in research and science policy. Recently COS, KNAW, NWO, VSNU and QANU have taken the initiative to encourage awareness of the social impact of scientific research and the development of methodologies in this area.
