Incidental Financial Support

Incidental financial support from the Division for Physical Sciences is primarily intended to strengthen the forum position of the exact sciences by increasing the interaction between Dutch scientist and foreign top experts.

Who can apply

Researchers in the fields of astronomy, information science and mathematics affiliated with a Dutch university or an institute recognised by NWO.

What can be applied for

The Incidental financial support fund is split in two funds, one for ‘special events’ and one for the ‘support for scientific meetings’. The meetings should be focused on (one of) the disciplines covered by the Division for Physical Sciences.

Special events

Events in astronomy, information science and mathematics, which are recurring and are regarded as prominent events by the community, are preferred. NWO expects the events to be in line with the strategic goals of the NWO Division for Physical Sciences (e.g. that attention is paid to aspects of internationalisation, multidisciplinarity, participation of female researchers, see also Strategie on www.nwo.nl/ew). The events will become part of the Division-wide communication strategy and will be promoted through its communication efforts. An annual budget of 130,000 Euro will be available for special events. Every six months, all applications received for special events will be evaluated simultaneously.

Support for scientific meetings
An annual budget of 50,000 Euro is available for smaller scientific meetings in astronomy, information science and mathematics. NWO provides funding of 2250 Euro per successful application. Normally only travel and accommodation expenses of foreign guests who make a scientific contribution are reimbursed.

When can be applied

Applications for this subsidy form may be submitted continuously. The deadlines for the submission of applications for special events are 1 June and 1 December.

Applications for Scientific meetings must be submitted at least two months in advance of the meeting.

Criteria

Important selection criteria are scientific relevance and the extent to which the forum function of the exact sciences is enhanced.

Procedure

The director of the NWO Division for Physical Sciences will decide on the applications.

Budget

The annual budget for this subsidy type is 180,000 Euro.
