Objective

The Fund for Scientific Research Flanders (FWO) and NWO's Earth and Life Sciences Division (ALW) call for proposals for research into questions regarding the ecology and environment of the Scheldt basin and the related part of the North Sea coast.

Application

Who can apply

Eligible to apply are tenured researchers at institutions involved in this cooperation. Proposals must be submitted jointly by researchers from both a Flemish and a Dutch institution.

What can be applied for

Per proposal one can apply for staff costs – 1 FTE maximum in Flanders and 1 FTE in the Netherlands for 2 years (in exceptional cases 3 years) – and project-specific material costs.

When can be applied

The closing date for applications was 28 February 2004.

Proposals are assessed by the Flemish-Dutch Supervising Committee using independent external reviews. Grant decisions are taken by the FWO Board and the Board of NWO-ALW.

Selection

Criteria

Proposals must concern joint research at both Flemish and Dutch institutions and must build on the Flemish-Dutch cooperation established during the four already ongoing research projects; they must be either continuations or extensions of these.

Proposals are assessed by the Flemish-Dutch Supervising Committee using independent external reviews. Grant decisions are taken by the FWO Board and the Board of NWO-ALW.

Budget

For this call FWO has a budget of 445,000 euro and NWO of 528,000 euro for the period 2005-2006 with possible extension to 2007.
