Objective

The stimulation programme Society and the Electronic Superhighway centres on developing scientific knowledge of the interaction between ICT and society. It links up with the National Action Programme Electronic Highways and has been formulated in consultation with the participating ministries. It consists of a number of clusters around the following themes: work, economic activity, spatial planning and logistics, welfare and culture, data and information, and education.

MES supports both short- and long-term research. Short-term research involves analysing current and policy-relevant themes, long-term research focuses on more fundamental questions. Part of the budget is reserved for organising ICT symposia and manifestations and creating an ICT information system and monitor.

Applications for this programme can no longer be submitted. There were two subsidy rounds, the last in 2003. The programme runs from 2000 to 2006.

This stimulation programme focuses on the mutual interaction of ICT and society. Both direct and indirect influences are studied. Particular attention is given to the relations between ICT and

  3. social transformations.
